Emmy® and two-time Golden Globe® award-winning actor/producer/director and Hollywood icon, James Brolin (“Marcus Welby, M.D.,” Michael Crichton’s WESTWORLD, THE AMITYVILLE HORROR, and TRAFFIC), shows no signs of slowing down as he just signed on to be the narrator for the new Netflix/DC Comics series “Sweet Tooth,” starring Will Forte and produce by Robert Downey, Jr.
Brolin recently wrapped a four-season run as the gregarious patriarch on the #1 CBS comedy series “Life in Pieces” opposite Colin Hanks and Oscar winner Dianne Wiest, which you can currently stream on CBS All Access. At 80, having worked nonstop over the last five decades, continues to grow his status as a prominent Hollywood director as he prepares to direct the true story of Ruby McCollum, the true-crime story that shook the foundation of the segregationist South, a story more timely than ever. A true Renaissance man, Brolin made his feature film DIRECTORIAL debut with MY BROTHER’S WAR, which won Best Film at the Hollywood Film Festival and stars his son, Academy Award nominated actor Josh Brolin. He recently directed and starred in two hit films for the Hallmark Channel, “I’ll Be Home for Christmas,” starring his “Life in Pieces” co-star Giselle Eisenberg and “Royal Hearts,” starring Andrew Scott (“Sherlock” and SPECTRE), both currently airing on the Hallmark Channel. Brolin began directing in the early 80’s, with countless episodes of “Hotel” and “Pensacola: Wings of Gold” in the 90’s, and hasn’t stopped since. Up next, Brolin is directing the true story of Ruby McCollum, a wealthy married African-American woman in Live Oak, Florida arrested and convicted in 1952 for killing a prominent white doctor and state senator.
In front of the camera, Brolin, best known for his starring role in “Marcus Welby, M.D.,” which earned him the Emmy and two Golden Globe awards and starring in the immensely popular drama “Hotel.” Brolin also starred as ‘Ronald Reagan’ in the TV movie “The Reagans,” where he earned an additional Emmy and Golden Globe nominations. Brolin’s also starred in memorable feature films including Michael Crichton’s WESTWORLD, THE AMITYVILLE HORROR, Steven Soderbergh’s Academy Award-winning film TRAFFIC, for which Brolin won a SAG Award for his portrayal of General Ralph Landry, Steven Spielberg’s CATCH ME IF YOU CAN, and Denzel Washington’s ANTWONE FISHER. Brolin also produced and starred in the critically acclaimed independent film CHEATIN’ HEARTS with Kris Kristofferson. Brolin is an avid pilot, racecar driver, equestrian, accomplished dog trainer, and home designer. When he’s not leading the cast of hit television shows or directing his next masterpiece, he can be found weekend piloting his two small airplanes. Brolin races cars professionally worldwide with the B.F. Goodrich Team and France’s Renault Factory, among others. Having grown up around horses, he spent many years breeding, raising and training 2-year-olds for both western riding and the racetrack. He has served over 35 years as a spec house designer and builder with his Oak Country Lumber company in San Luis Obispo County.
